Help your body to heal
The highly qualified and certified physicians who are part of the Regenexx network have developed a variety of procedures to reduce pain, improve function and avoid spinal surgery and the harmful side effects of epidural steroid injections. These highly specific and accurate image-guided injection procedures use the body's own healing substances to promote the body's own self-healing powers in the treatment of herniated or herniated discs, degenerative spinal conditions and other ailments of the back and neck.
The origin of back pain is often misidentified, which can lead to inadequate treatment and unnecessary surgery. As pioneers in the field of interventional orthobiology and with over a decade and a half of experience using these advanced interventional orthobiology procedures for back pain, our highly trained and certified physicians are able to identify the most likely sources of pain and select the more appropriate minimally invasive non-surgical treatment options to discard.

About Regenexx and our network of highly qualified physicians
Regenexx® processoffers non-surgical treatment options for those suffering from pain associated with osteoarthritis, joint injuries, back pain, overuse conditions and frequent sports injuries. Performed only by highly qualified physicians, these medical procedures are designed to relieve pain and improve function. Regenexx procedures have helped thousands of patients improve their quality of life, return to the activities they enjoy and avoid the need for surgery or joint replacement*.
Regenexx doctorsThey represent a very selective and highly qualified interventional orthobiology network, 100% focused on orthopedic diseases. All Regenexx physicians are musculoskeletal specialists with extensive training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, as well as the complex image-guided injection of endogenous remedies to treat orthopedic problems. Regenexx patient outcomes are tracked in a registry, and with this information, we are providing transparent outcome data (below) for those who may be considering this treatment option.

Regenexx alternative to spinal surgery or epidural steroid injections
A steroid epidural is an injection in which steroid medication is placed around irritated or inflamed nerves in the spine. While they help patients avoid surgery, epidurals use very high doses of steroids that can cause serious side effects and actually impair the body's ability to heal.
Regenexx offers a variety of minimally invasive procedures that deliver ultra-precise spinal injections of platelet lysate (or, in less cases, bone marrow concentrate) when needed, using advanced image guidance to ensure precise placement in the injured area.
Platelet Treatments for Herniated Disc or Herniated Disc
Bulging and herniated disc explained
a bulging discalso called a bulge or bulging disc. This means that the outer covering of the disc (annulus) is partially torn or damaged and the gel inside is causing the area to swell. This can press on a spinal nerve and cause numbness and tingling (sciatica).
a herniated discIt is also known as extruded disc, herniated disc, sequestrum or “HNP” (Herniated Nucleus Pulposis). This means that the outer shell of the disc (annulus) is completely torn or damaged and the gel inside is squirting out. This can press on a spinal nerve or cause severe inflammation, leading to numbness and tingling (sciatica).
Herniated disc and herniated disc treatment
Platelet lysate is commonly used to treat herniated and herniated discs. This highly specialized procedure developed by Regenexx uses natural growth factors from the patient's own blood platelets. Regenexx's extensive experience with platelet lysate, platelet-rich plasma and bone marrow concentrate from the patient's own body allows us to identify the best treatment options to address the source of pain.
Spinal platelet lysis procedures are performed with precise image guidance to target the specific areas that need treatment and can provide relief from back or neck pain, buttock and leg pain, or numbness and tingling in the arms, hands, legs or feet. It is a highly specific and accurate image-guided non-surgical treatment alternative for patients with herniated discs and problems related to cervical, thoracic or lumbar hernias, performed only by specially trained Regenexx physicians.
A better option than epidural anesthesia with steroids
A steroid epidural is an injection in which steroid medication is placed around irritated or inflamed nerves in the spine. While they can help patients avoid surgery and provide temporary pain relief, epidurals use very high doses of steroids that can interfere with the body's ability to heal and cause serious side effects.
Regenexx Platelet Lysate is a highly specific and accurate image-guided injection-based alternative to epidural steroid injection. It uses the patient's own body's own natural growth factors, derived from their own blood platelets, and helps patients avoid surgery and the negative side effects of steroids.
Use of endogenous remedies for degenerative disc pain: bone marrow and platelet concentrate
Advanced treatments for degenerative discs
Patients with a degenerated disc tend to lose disc height, which can lead to a variety of complications.
- Congested nerves (stenoses)
- Overuse of facet joints leading to arthritis
- Loose ligaments leading to general spinal instability
Our advanced interventional orthobiologic treatment protocol focuses on the patient's own platelet and/or bone marrow concentrate used to treat disc movement due to lax ligaments and arthritic joints.
Each of these critical areas mentioned above can benefit from different types of procedures.
Because Regenexx was the first to develop this type of treatment modality, we have the experience and wide range of procedures to allow the treatment of all these conditions. Regenexx procedures provide patients suffering from complications associated with degenerative disc disease with highly specific and accurate image-guided non-surgical treatment options using the body's own healing resources. Our highly trained physicians carefully direct the correct procedure to the affected areas of the spine with precise image guidance, allowing patients to avoid spinal fusion surgery or frequent high dose epidural steroid injections and the associated side effects.
Advanced treatments for ruptured and painful discs
Torn and painful intervertebral discs
Disc tears are also called annular tears or HIZs (high intensity zones) on MRIs. A patient with a painful herniated disc has “discogenic pain”. The outer covering of the disc can tear from injury and painful nerves can grow in the area, causing lower back pain, usually when sitting or engaging in activities. Also, a ruptured disc can allow harmful chemicals to leak out and irritate the spinal nerve, which can lead to sciatica.
Patients with this type of disc damage and pain may benefit from a Regenexx bone marrow concentrate injection procedure.
This highly specialized and accurate image-guided non-surgical procedure uses cells isolated from the patient's own bone marrow. Bone marrow is collected using a special needle and advanced imaging guidance during a procedure at your Regenexx doctor's office. Patients tolerate the harvesting procedure well, and many patients report that they feel no pain. After collection, the bone marrow is centrifuged to concentrate scar cells and remove unnecessary cells. These cells, along with a concentrated platelet preparation, are injected into the damaged disc the same day using precise and advanced imaging guidance.
The instruction manual from the back
This e-book, written by Dr. Chris Centeno deals with the spine and its function within the human musculoskeletal system and the body as a whole. Everything in the body works together like a finely tuned symphony to support our well-being, and a healthy spine and all its components (eg spinal nerves, ligaments, muscles, etc.) are essential to the health of the whole. the body. . When a single component of the spinal chain is damaged, it can lead to a cascade of problems not just in the musculoskeletal system, but throughout the entire body, and even more damage to the spine if left untreated. The result is chronic pain throughout the body, which can be attributed to spinal damage if the diagnosis is correct.
Using the Regenexx SANS approach, the Spine Owner's Manual provides a clearly defined set of tests and exercises you can do yourself to measure and monitor the health of your own spine. It allows you to examine where your own body may be struggling to maintain proper stability, articulation, symmetry and neuromuscular function, and helps to make the connections between these deficiencies in other parts of the body and in the spine.
