Help your body heal

The highly-skilled, board-certified physicians who are part of the Regenexx network have a variety of procedures aimed at relieving pain, improving function, and avoiding spinal surgery and the harmful side effects of epidural steroid injections. These highly specific and precise image-guided injection procedures use endogenous healing compounds to promote the body's natural healing ability to treat slipped or herniated discs, degenerative diseases of the spine, and other conditions affecting the back and neck.

The source of back pain is often misidentified, which can lead to inappropriate treatment and unnecessary surgeries. As pioneers in the field of interventional orthobiology and with over a decade and a half of experience applying these advanced interventional orthobiology procedures to low back pain, our highly-skilled and board-certified physicians can identify the most likely sources of pain and select the more suitable. Appropriate surgical minimally invasive treatment options available.

Proceso Regenexx®offers non-surgical treatment options for those suffering from pain associated with osteoarthritis, joint injuries, back pain, overuse conditions, and frequent sports injuries. Performed only by highly qualified physicians, these medical procedures help reduce pain and improve function. Regenexx procedures have helped thousands of patients improve their quality of life, return to the activities they enjoy, and avoid the need for joint surgery or replacement*.

Regenexx MedicineThey represent a very selective and highly qualified interventional orthobiology network, 100% focused on orthopedic diseases. All Regenexx physicians are musculoskeletal specialists with extensive training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, as well as image-guided complex injections from the body's own healers to treat orthopedic issues. Treatment results for Regenexx patients are recorded in a registry, and with this information, we provide transparent treatment results (below) for those considering this treatment option.

A steroid epidural is an injection in which steroid medicine is placed around irritated or inflamed nerves in the spine. While helping patients avoid surgery, epidurals use steroids in very high doses, which can cause serious side effects and actually affect the body's ability to heal.

Regenexx offers a variety of minimally invasive procedures that deliver ultra-precise spinal injections of platelet lysate (or bone marrow concentrate in some cases) on demand, using advanced image guidance to ensure precise placement in the injured area.

Platelet Treatments for Bulging or Herniated Disc Pain

Regenexx procedure for column conditions | Manzano Medical Group (3)

Bulging and herniated discs explained

a bulging discit is also known as a bulge or bulging disc. This means that the outer covering of the disc (ring) is partially torn or damaged and the gel inside is causing the area to swell. This can press on a spinal nerve and cause numbness and tingling (sciatica).

a herniated discIt is also called herniated disc, slipped disc, sequestration, or “HNP” (Herniated Nucleus Pulposis). This means that the outer covering (ring) of the disc is completely torn or damaged and the gel inside is gushing out. This can put pressure on a spinal nerve or cause severe swelling, numbness, and tingling (sciatica).

Treatment of herniated discs and herniated discs

Platelet lysate is commonly used to treat herniated and herniated discs. This very special procedure, developed by Regenexx, uses natural growth factors from the patient's own blood platelets. Regenexx's extensive experience with platelet lysate, platelet-rich plasma, and patient's own bone marrow concentrate allows us to identify the best treatment options to address the source of your pain.

Spinal platelet lysate procedures are administered with precise imaging guidance to target the specific areas that need treatment and can provide relief from back or neck pain, buttock and leg pain, or numbness and tingling in the arms, hands , legs or feet. It is a highly specific and precise image-guided non-surgical treatment alternative for patients with bulging and herniated discs associated with cervical, thoracic or lumbar discs, performed only by specially trained Regenexx physicians.

A better option than epidural steroids

spinal nerves. While they can help patients avoid surgery and provide temporary pain relief, epidurals use steroids in very high doses, which can interfere with the body's ability to heal and cause serious side effects.

Regenexx Platelet Lysate is a highly specific and precise image-guided injection-based alternative to epidural steroid injection. It uses the patient's own body's own natural growth factors, derived from their own blood platelets, and helps patients avoid surgery and the negative side effects of steroids.

Use of Endogenous Remedies for Degenerative Disc Pain: Bone Marrow and Platelet Concentrate

Advanced treatments for degenerative discs

Patients with a degenerated disc tend to lose disc height, which can lead to a variety of complications.

  • Pinched nerves (stenosis)
  • Overuse of the facet joints leading to arthritis.
  • Loose ligaments leading to general instability of the spine

Our advanced interventional orthobiologic treatment protocol focuses on autologous platelet concentrate and/or bone marrow implanted into the patient to treat disc movement due to lax ligaments and arthritic joints.

Each of these critical areas mentioned above can benefit from different types of procedures.

Because Regenexx was the first to develop this type of treatment modality, we have the experience and a wide range of procedures to enable treatment of all of these conditions. Regenexx procedures provide patients suffering from complications associated with degenerative disc disease with highly specific and precise non-surgical treatment options using endogenous healing agents. Our highly trained physicians carefully initiate the correct procedure on the affected areas of the spine using precise image guidance, allowing patients to avoid spinal fusion surgery or frequent high-dose epidural steroid injections and associated side effects. .

Advanced Treatments for Ruptured and Painful Discs

Torn and painful intervertebral discs

Disc tears are also called annular tears or HIZs (high intensity zones) on MRIs. A patient with a painful herniated disc has “discogenic pain”. The outer covering of the disc can rupture due to injury and painful nerves can grow in the area, causing back pain, usually when sitting or doing activities. Also, a rupture in the disc can allow harmful chemicals to leak out and irritate the spinal nerve, which can lead to sciatica.

Patients with this type of disc damage and pain may benefit from a Regenexx bone marrow concentrate injection procedure.

This highly specialized, image-guided, non-surgical procedure uses cells isolated from the patient's own bone marrow. Bone marrow is collected using a special needle and advanced imaging guidance during a procedure in your Regenexx doctor's office. The harvesting procedure is well tolerated by patients and many patients do not report pain. After collection, the bone marrow is centrifuged to concentrate the scar cells and unnecessary cells are removed. These cells, along with a concentrated preparation of platelets, are injected into the damaged disc the same day using advanced and precise imaging techniques.

How to avoid back pain and life-changing surgeries

Written by Dr. Chris Centeno, this eBook is about the spine and its function within the human musculoskeletal system and the body as a whole. Everything in the body works together in a precisely timed symphony to support our well-being, and a healthy spine and all its components (eg, spinal nerves, ligaments, muscles, etc.) are essential to the overall health of the body. When a single component of the spinal chain is damaged, it can lead to a cascade of problems not just in the musculoskeletal system but throughout the body, and even more damage to the spine if left untreated. The result is chronic pain throughout the body, traceable to spinal damage if the diagnosis is correct.
Using the Regenexx SANS approach, the Spine Owner's Manual provides a clearly defined set of do-it-yourself tests and exercises to measure and monitor the health of your spine. This allows you to examine where your own body may be struggling to maintain proper stability, articulation, symmetry, and neuromuscular function, and will help you make connections between these deficiencies in other parts of the body and in the spine.
