Help your body heal

The highly qualified and certified doctors who are part of the Regenexx network have a variety of regenerative orthopedic procedures aimed at reducing pain, improving function and avoiding spinal surgery and the harmful side effects of epidural injections. Guided by highly specific and accurate images, these injection procedures use your own body's healing materials to promote the body's natural healing ability in the treatment of herniated or herniated discs, degenerative diseases of the spine, and other disorders of the back and neck.

The origin of back pain is often misidentified, which can lead to inadequate treatment and unnecessary surgeries. As pioneers in the field of interventional orthobiology and with over a decade and a half of experience using these advanced interventional orthobiology procedures for spinal pain, our highly trained and certified physicians are able to identify the most likely sources of pain and select the minimally invasive appropriate non-surgical treatment options available.

Regenexx alternative to spinal surgery or epidural steroid injections

A steroid epidural is an injection in which steroid medication is placed around irritated or inflamed nerves in the spine. While helping patients avoid surgery, epidurals use steroids in very high doses, which can cause serious side effects and actually impair the body's ability to heal.

Regenexx offers a variety of minimally invasive procedures that deliver ultra-precise spinal injections of platelet lysate (or bone marrow concentrate in some cases) as needed, using advanced image guidance to ensure accurate placement in the injured area.

Platelet treatments for bulging or herniated disc pain

Bulges and herniated discs explained

a bulging discalso called bulge or bulging disc. This means that the outer covering of the disc (annulus) is partially torn or damaged and the gel inside is causing the area to swell. This can press on a spinal nerve and cause numbness and tingling (sciatica).

a herniated discIt is also called herniated disc, herniated disc, sequester or “HNP” (Herniated Nucleus Pulposis). This means that the outer covering of the disc (annulus) is completely torn or damaged and the gel inside is spurting out. This can press on a spinal nerve or cause severe inflammation and cause numbness and tingling (sciatica).

Treatment of herniated discs and herniated discs

Platelet lysate is commonly used to treat herniated and herniated discs. This highly specialized procedure developed by Regenexx uses natural growth factors from the patient's own blood platelets. Regenexx's extensive experience with platelet lysate, platelet rich plasma and patient's own bone marrow concentrate allows us to determine the best treatment options to address the source of your pain.

Spinal platelet lysis procedures are performed with precise imaging guidance to target the specific areas that need treatment and can provide relief from back or neck pain, buttock and leg pain, or numbness and tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet. It is a highly specific and accurate image-guided non-surgical treatment alternative for patients with herniated discs and problems related to cervical, thoracic or lumbar hernias, performed only by specially trained Regenexx doctors.

A better option than epidural steroids

A steroid epidural is an injection in which steroid medication is placed around irritated or inflamed nerves in the spine. While they can help patients avoid surgery and temporarily relieve pain, epidurals use steroids in very high doses, which can interfere with the body's ability to heal and cause serious side effects.

Regenexx Platelet Lysate is a highly specific and accurate image-guided injection-based alternative to epidural steroid injection. It uses the patient's own body's natural growth factors, derived from their own blood platelets, and helps patients avoid surgery and the negative side effects of steroids.

Use of endogenous remedies for degenerative disc pain: bone marrow and platelet concentrate

Advanced treatments for degenerative discs

Patients with a degenerated disc tend to lose disc height, which can lead to a variety of complications.

  • Pinched nerves (stenosis)
  • Overuse of the facet joints leading to arthritis
  • Loose ligaments leading to general instability of the spine

Our advanced interventional orthobiologic treatment protocol focuses on the patient's autologous platelets and/or implanted bone marrow concentrate to treat disc movement due to lax ligaments and arthritic joints.

Each of these critical areas mentioned above can benefit from different types of procedures.

Because Regenexx was the first to develop this type of treatment modality, we have experience and a wide range of procedures that allow the treatment of all these conditions. Regenexx procedures provide highly specific and accurate image-guided non-surgical treatment options using autologous remedies for patients suffering from complications associated with degenerative disc disease. Our highly trained physicians carefully assign the correct procedure to the affected areas of the spine with precise image guidance, allowing patients to avoid spinal fusion surgery or frequent high-dose epidural steroid injections and the associated side effects.

Advanced treatments for torn and painful discs

Torn and painful intervertebral discs

Disc tears are also referred to as annular tears or HIZs (High Intensity Zones) on MRIs. A patient with a painful herniated disc has “discogenic pain”. The outer covering of the disc can tear due to an injury, and painful nerves can grow in the area, causing lower back pain, usually when sitting or engaging in activities. In addition, a herniated disc can allow harmful chemicals to leak out and irritate the spinal nerve, which can lead to sciatica.

Patients with this type of disc damage and pain may benefit from a Regenexx bone marrow concentrate injection procedure.

This highly specialized and accurate image-guided non-surgical procedure uses cells isolated from the patient's own bone marrow. Bone marrow is harvested using a special needle and advanced imaging guidance during an in-office procedure at your Regenexx doctor. Patients tolerate the harvesting procedure well and many patients report that they do not feel any pain. After collection, the bone marrow is centrifuged to concentrate scar cells and unnecessary cells are removed. These cells, along with a concentrated platelet preparation, are injected into the damaged disc the same day using precise and advanced imaging techniques.

The Spine User Manual

Vertebral column Regenexx - Regenexx Des Moines (7)

Written by Dr. Chris Centeno, this eBook is about the spine and its function within the human musculoskeletal system and the body as a whole. Everything inside the body works together as a precisely coordinated symphony to support our well-being, a healthy spine and all its components (e.g. spinal nerves, ligaments, muscles, etc.) are fundamental to the overall health of the body. . When a single component of the spinal chain is damaged, it can lead to a cascade of problems, not just in the musculoskeletal system but throughout the body, and even more damage to the spine if left untreated. The result is chronic pain throughout the body, which can be traced back to damage to the spine if the diagnosis is correct.

Using the Regenexx SANS approach, the Spine Owner's Manual provides a clearly defined set of tests and exercises that you can do yourself to measure and monitor the health of your spine. This allows you to examine where your own body may be struggling to maintain proper stability, articulation, symmetry, and neuromuscular function, and it will help you make connections between these deficiencies in other parts of the body and in the spine.
